Chapter 16

Pravyous measured Byryn smugly. “I didn’t give you permission to take her.”

“And I didn’t give you permission to touch Kyle. I guess we’ll both just have to get over it,” he challenged. “Are we secure? That was your responsibility to ensure.”

“Yes. The others encountered a handful of slaves but they managed them easily. There are two female Shade in the cells. I won’t allow you to take them to the Realm of Balance and I won’t accept your claim on them. You’d just spirit them away at the first opportunity. I’m foolish enough not to know that’s where they’ll end up,” he informed him. “What would you like done with them?”

Byryn considered his options. He needed to foster the loyalty he’d gained. “Beryn, you may claim whichever you wish as your own and Torq can have the other. Do you remember the tertiary location?” He prompted.

“Of course, but it has not been used in years,” his brother replied thoughtfully. “Still, it should be fairly easy to ready and the defensive structure was sound at last check.”

“I want it ready before I need to return to the Realm of Balance in two weeks. You are to shroud its location,” he commanded as he held Pravyous’ gaze. “Take your new pet and see to it. I expect you to continue to report to Pravyous in the meantime, but if he asks you to do anything you know damned well I would countermand, I expect you to use your better judgment. Torq can join you. Give Scratryn the option, but I suspect he’ll choose to join Vilyn.”

“It shall be done, my lord,” Beryn bowed and misted from his sight.

He wouldn’t need to verify that his brother had done what he’d asked. Once Beryn swore his loyalty he abided by it. As long as Byryn didn’t give him a reason to question his allegiances, he’d follow him as he always had.

“There are others that would likely join you, brother.” Pravyous shrugged. “As I said, provided you do not attempt to stand against me, or attempt to lead them to defection, I won’t stand in your way. My orders are to support you in any way necessary.”

“I won’t lead anyone to defection, but if they seek Redemption I won’t deny them that option either,” he replied simply. “They have family in the Realm of Balance as well. Not all are suited for this life and I’d rather see them Gray than dead.”

Pravyous frowned. “We’ll discuss this further after you see my Master. It is time to go.”

Byryn shook his head. “Wyce and Furynious are still here.”

He waved a hand dismissively. “They can both remain with Beryn.”

“I have a mate I must return to and the younger of our line to attend to,” Wycelion interjected.

“I know, Wyce,” Byryn reassured as he faced off with Pravyous. “We’ll wait until Kyle returns and they are safely in the Realm of Balance, as per your vow.”

“I think you are merely procrastinating,” the Servys mused.

“Should we break the vow and see if it kills you, Michael?” He taunted noticing his scowl.
